Job summary

Sovereign & Bale is seeking a Supported Internship Tutor and Job Coach in Wakefield to guide interns through a structured programme, securing an Employability Award and progression into paid work. You will provide 1:1 tuition and support for partners and families to ensure success.

Responsibilities include delivering lessons, developing individualised plans, and coordinating with schools, authorities and employers to optimise progression and learning outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Proven track record of supporting young people with SEND.
  • Experience delivering group learning and one-to-one coaching.
  • Experience developing learning plans and tracking progress.
  • Strong IT, administration, and organisational skills.
  • NVQ Level 6 or equivalent in Careers Education, Youth Work, or Social Care (or working towards).
  • Flexible, positive and solutions-focused approach.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a range of stakeholders.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and commitment to equality and inclusion.
  • Experience in the employment and skills sector.
  • Knowledge of current SEND education and employment pathways.

  • Recruit appropriate students with disabilities for the programme / conduct education assessments for those who have applied.
  • Plan and deliver daily classroom activities and lesson plans in line with agreed units to achieve the Progression Award and support Functional Skills delivery.
  • Deliver daily classroom support in literacy and numeracy (remote).
  • Support interns to develop their portfolios to achieve the accreditation and skills attained.
  • Assess student skills.
  • Be responsible for the emotional and social welfare of the interns.
  • Work with local authorities and businesses, attend reviews and other meetings as required to meet student progression and employment needs.
  • Develop IEP and transition plan for students and create career plans based on individual preferences and skills.
  • Attend host business induction to ensure intern understanding and learning.
  • Work with SI job coach and department managers to develop internship sites, write job descriptions and plan for necessary job modifications.
  • Work with parents, the local authority and other supported internship stakeholders to support the progression of the interns.
  • Carry out job coaching as required.

Position: Supported Internship Tutor and Job Coach

Salary: £26,288 - £32,083

The Role

To support, coach and teach interns on a Supported Internship programme, to achieve an accredited Award in Employability and transition into paid employment. To provide 1:1 tuition support as required to interns and training and support for business partners and families, to ensure success during the supported internship and to prepare interns for job opportunities both within and outside of the host employer.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide direction and organisation to the on-site learning programme
  • Recruit appropriate students with disabilities for the programme / conduct education assessments for those who have applied
  • Plan and deliver (including virtual) daily classroom activities and lesson plans in line with agreed units to achieve the Progression Award and support Functional Skills delivery (Entry Level 3 – Level 2)
  • Deliver daily classroom support in literacy and numeracy (remote)
  • Support interns to develop their portfolios to achieve the accreditation and skills attained, letter of recommendations from internship sites, etc.
  • Assess student skills
  • Be responsible for the emotional and social welfare of the interns
  • Work with local authorities and businesses, attend reviews and other meetings as required to meet student progression and employment needs
  • Develop IEP and transition plan for students and creates “career plan” based on individual preferences and skills
