Job summary

DWP Digital in Newcastle is seeking a Java Software Engineer to build secure, scalable digital services used by millions of people across the UK. You will work in agile teams, designing and maintaining software products that improve public services.

Expect to collaborate on secure, resilient applications using Java, AWS, Kubernetes, Python and CI/CD, while contributing to a thriving engineering community and knowledge sharing. Hybrid working model offered.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of APIs, RESTful services and microservice architectures.
• Experience deploying applications in cloud environments such as AWS or Azure.
• Strong understanding of Test Driven Development (TDD) and Behaviour Driven Development (BDD).
• Experience with SQL and/or NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL or MongoDB).
• Experience building automated test suites supporting CI/CD.
• Proven experience delivering large-scale systems using Java 21+ and open-source tech.

Responsibilities

• As a Java Software Engineer, you'll build and support digital services used by millions of citizens across the UK.
• Work within agile, multidisciplinary teams to design, develop and maintain software products for users.
• Collaborate with architects, engineers and product teams to build secure, resilient, and scalable apps using Java, AWS, Kubernetes, Python and CI/CD.
• Contribute to DWP's engineering community by sharing knowledge and best practices.
