Job summary

Opus Recruitment Solutions Ltd. seeks a Java Engineer for a 12-month fixed-term contract with a strong likelihood of permanent placement. The role is based in Newcastle with hybrid working (3 days onsite).

You will deliver cloud-native Java applications, implement microservices, and collaborate across engineering, DevOps, testing and architecture teams. Ideal candidates will have Java expertise (JDK 11+), Spring Boot, REST APIs, and AWS experience within an Agile environment.

Qualifications

• Commercial Java development experience.
• Experience with Java (JDK 11+) and Spring Boot.
• Knowledge of REST APIs and microservices.
• AWS and Agile/Scrum practices.
• CI/CD exposure and automated testing experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop Java-based enterprise applications and microservices.

We're looking for a talented Java Engineer to join a leading technology consultancy delivering large-scale digital transformation programmes for high-profile clients. This is an excellent opportunity to work on modern cloud-native applications, enterprise integrations and microservices architectures using the latest Java technologies within collaborative Agile engineering teams. The position is offered as a 12-month fixed-term contract, with a strong intention to move successful candidates into a permanent position following the initial term.

What You'll Be Doing

• Developing Java-based enterprise applications and microservices.
• Building secure, scalable solutions using Java (JDK 11+) and Spring Boot.
• Working on AWS-hosted cloud solutions.
• Developing and consuming REST APIs.
• Contributing to modern Microservices architectures.
• Working closely with engineering, DevOps, testing and architecture teams.
• Participating in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups and retrospectives.
• Following engineering best practices including CI/CD, TDD and automated testing.

Security Clearance Requirement
