Michael Page is recruiting a Java Engineer for a hybrid role in Central London, where you’ll join a small team of 10 to work on a brand new AI-focused product. You’ll take end-to-end delivery ownership, design scalable server-side Java services, and collaborate with stakeholders to meet deadlines.

You’ll apply your Java, Linux, and database skills (Mongo/Postgres) while exploring AI-driven development. 3 days in Central London with remote work 2 days, in a fast-paced financial tech environment.

Qualifications

• 2+ years industry experience.
• Proficient in Java and Linux environments.
• Experience with Apache web/HTTP servers.
• Hands-on with Mongo or PostgreSQL databases.
• AI-focused development or prompt engineering experience.
• Broker platform experience is highly beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Taking end-to-end delivery ownership of key software projects.
• Designing and building scalable Java services for financial systems.
• Identify and implement performance improvements.

Description

• Taking end-to-end delivery ownership of key software development projects and enhancements
• Designing and building scalable, server-side Java services that enhance core financial systems
• Proactively identify and implement improvements
• Collaborating closely with stakeholders to ensure requirements are well understood, designs are sound and deadlines are met
• Reviewing designs and code produced by colleagues, providing clear and constructive feedback
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather and analyse technical requirements.
• Implement efficient and scalable code to optimise system performance.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues to ensure system reliability.
• Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members.
• Stay updated with the latest developments in Java and related technologies.
• Document code and processes to support knowledge sharing within the team.

Profile

Must haves:

• 2+ years industry experience

• AI - prompt engineering or AI-assisted development (Claude, Cursor etc)
• Worked on a broker platform or similar industry experience a huge plus
