The University of Oxford’s Nuffield Department of Medicine IT Team in Oxford is seeking an IT Support Technician (Maternity Cover) to deliver first-line IT support to staff, students and visitors across a busy research and admin environment.
You will troubleshoot hardware, software and AV issues, maintain service records and assist with configuring new equipment while providing excellent customer service and working collaboratively with colleagues.

We are seeking to appoint an IT Support Technician (Maternity Cover) to join the Nuffield Department of Medicine's IT Team.
This is an exciting opportunity to provide first-line IT support to staff, students and visitors across a diverse research and administrative environment. You will play a key role in ensuring users receive responsive, high-quality technical support, helping to maintain the technology that underpins world-leading research and professional services. This fixed-term post is available until 1 April 2027, or until the substantive postholder returns, whichever is sooner.
You will be responsible for providing first-line IT support for hardware, software and audio-visual equipment, resolving service desk requests, setting up and configuring new IT equipment, supporting common Microsoft applications, maintaining accurate service records, and ensuring users receive timely updates on their requests. You will also contribute to IT documentation, hardware asset management, and work collaboratively with colleagues to deliver an efficient, customer-focused IT service.
It is essential that you are educated to A-Level standard (or have equivalent relevant experience), have experience providing first-line IT support in a professional environment, and possess a broad knowledge of Windows and macOS systems. You will have excellent communication and customer service skills, be able to manage competing priorities effectively, work both independently and as part of a team, and demonstrate a methodical approach to problem-solving while handling sensitive information with discretion.
This position is offered full time and on a fixed term contract until 1 April 2027 (maternity cover role).

Salary (£) : Standard Grade 5: £32,108 - £37,338 with a discretionary range to £40,5114 per annum (pro rata). This is inclusive of a pensionable Oxford University Weighting of £1,730 per year (pro rata).
