Job summary

MTrec Limited is recruiting a permanent IT Support Engineer for a manufacturing client near Washington, UK. You will perform daily IT checks, maintenance, incident resolution, and project delivery while ensuring licensing compliance and security standards.

Ideal candidates will have strong Windows/M365 experience, AD, Group Policy, and networking skills, with virtualization knowledge (VMware/Hyper-V) and SQL exposure. On-site role with a stable team environment and clear progression.

Qualifications

• Proven IT experience in a similar role.
• Strong knowledge of Windows desktop and server OS.
• Experience with Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Group Policy, and network troubleshooting.
• Experience installing servers and supporting server migrations.
• Familiarity with virtualization platforms such as VMware or Hyper-V.
• SQL knowledge/experience.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Carry out daily IT checks and maintenance, including backups, log reviews and server-room inspections.
• Diagnose, troubleshoot and resolve software and hardware issues to minimise disruption.
• Manage IT incidents and change requests via the IT Service Desk system.
• Install, configure and deploy new IT hardware and software with licensing compliance.
• Onboard/offboard users, including setup and relocation of PCs, phones and workstations.
• Ensure PCs, laptops, and servers are patched within required timeframes.
• Deliver IT projects and provide technical support to other departments as required.
• Maintain ISO 27001 and other compliance standards.
• Occasional out-of-hours IT support to assist project delivery and business continuity.
• Liaise with external suppliers and raise support calls when specialist help is needed.
• Provide MES and ERP system support, including reporting.
• Install and terminate network cabling; IPAF 3A/3B training provided.

The Job You’ll Do;

• Carry out daily IT checks and routine maintenance, including backup verification, log reviews, and visual inspections of server rooms.
• Investigate, diagnose, and resolve software and hardware issues, identifying appropriate solutions to minimise disruption.
• Manage, resolve, and elevate IT incidents and change requests through the IT Service Desk system.
• Install, configure, and deploy new IT hardware and software, ensuring compliance with licensing requirements.
• Provide IT support for new starters and leavers, including the setup and relocation of PCs, telephones, and workstations.
• Ensure all PCs, laptops, and servers are patched within the required compliance timeframes.
• Deliver IT projects as assigned by management and provide technical support to other departments where required.
• Ensure all activities are carried out in accordance with applicable legislation, regulations, and industry requirements.
• Support the organisation in maintaining relevant certifications and compliance standards, including ISO 27001.
• Undertake out-of-hours IT support when required to assist with project delivery and business continuity.
• Liaise with key external suppliers and raise support calls when specialist assistance is required.
• Provide support for MES and ERP systems, including the development and maintenance of reports.
• Install and terminate network cabling and undertake cable runs as required, with IPAF 3A/3B training provided.
• Ensure compliance with company IT policies, procedures, and security standards.
• Attend and actively participate in IT security and awareness training programmes.
• Identify and report non-conformances and information security incidents

About You;

• Proven experience working in an IT role, such as IT Support Engineer or similar
• Strong knowledge of Windows desktop and server operating systems
• Experience with Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Group Policy, and network troubleshooting
• Experience installing servers and supporting server migrations
• Knowledge of networking and firewall technologies
• Familiarity with virtualization platforms such as VMware or Hyper-V
• Excellent problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail
• Self-motivated with a proactive, can-do attitude
• Strong organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
• Educated to a minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent)
• SQL knowledge/experience
