Job summary

Mackenzie Jones IT in London is seeking an IT Manager for an education organisation. The role combines hands-on IT management with team leadership across three London sites, consolidating IT services, standardising platforms and establishing consistent IT support and MSP provision.

You will lead day-to-day IT operations, manage budgets and suppliers, drive a shared operating model, and ensure GDPR and security compliance while travel between sites as needed.

Qualifications

  • Proven IT Management experience with leadership and staff development.
  • Education sector experience is desirable; other sectors considered.
  • Strong hands-on Windows Desktop, Windows Server & macOS support and troubleshooting.
  • Strong Microsoft Intune & MDM across laptops, desktops & tablets.
  • Strong Microsoft 365, Entra ID / Active Directory knowledge.
  • Network administration incl. switches, WLAN, DNS/DHCP/VLANs.
  • High-level network security, firewalls, VPNs and security policies.
  • Experience managing IT budgets, MSPs and external suppliers.
  • Experience supporting classroom AV and interactive screens.
  • Knowledge of GDPR and IT-related legislation; strong communication and planning.

Responsibilities

  • IT Service Delivery: lead IT services, infrastructure and support for staff and pupils.
  • IT Consolidation & Strategy: develop IT roadmaps, standardise platforms and deliver projects end-to-end.
  • MSP Selection & Management: run RFI/RFPs, evaluate suppliers and transition to shared MSP.
  • Service Delivery: establish a shared service desk and improve escalation processes.
  • Team Leadership: manage and develop IT engineers across locations.
  • Technical Ownership: oversee networks, servers, Windows/macOS devices, 365/Intune, identity platforms.
  • Security & Governance: maintain data protection and GDPR compliance.
  • Commercial & Stakeholder Management: manage budgets, suppliers and contracts.
  • Hands-on Support: stay involved in troubleshooting and delivery with the team and MSP.

IT Manager - Permanent

c.£55k - £60k + Benefits Package

Location: On-site - South-West London - occasional travel to Central London

Leading education organisation is seeking an experienced IT Manager, ideally with experience of consolidating IT Services across multiple sites, standardising Technology Platforms & establishing consistent IT Support & MSP provision. The role combines hands-on IT Management with team leadership, Technology Strategy & Service Improvement across x3 London sites. A key focus will be bringing predominantly Microsoft environments into a Shared IT Operating Model, aligning platforms, consolidating MSP provision and developing consistent service standards.

This opportunity would suit an IT Manager with proven management experience who can lead day-to-day operations while overseeing IT Standardisation, Supplier Selection & Service Improvement.

ROLE:
  • IT Service Delivery: Lead IT Services, Infrastructure & Support, ensuring reliable delivery to Staff & Pupils - 400 Staff & 2,000 Pupils
  • IT Consolidation & Strategy: Develop the IT Roadmap, standardise platforms & processes, and deliver projects from business case through to implementation.
  • MSP Selection & Management: Lead RFI/RFP exercises, evaluate suppliers and oversee the transition to a shared MSP with clear service standards.
  • Service Delivery: Lead reliable IT Support for staff & pupils, improve escalation processes and help establish a shared service desk.
  • Team Leadership: Manage and develop IT Engineers across locations, setting priorities, workloads and objectives.
  • Technical Ownership: Oversee Networks, Servers, Windows/macOS devices, Microsoft 365, Intune/MDM, Identity Platforms & Classroom AV.
  • Security & Governance: Maintain IT security, data protection and GDPR compliance.
  • Commercial & Stakeholder Management: Manage IT Budgets, Suppliers & Contracts, working closely with Senior Education Leaders.
  • Hands-on Support: Remain actively involved in troubleshooting and technical delivery alongside the IT team and MSP.
SKILLS / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • Proven IT Management experience, including leadership and development of IT staff.
  • Education sector experience is desirable; applicants from other sectors with the required skills, knowledge and experience will also be considered.
  • Strong hands-on Windows Desktop, Windows Server & macOS setup, deployment, support and troubleshooting.
  • Strong Microsoft Intune & MDM experience across Laptops, Desktops & Tablets.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365 & Entra ID / Active Directory.
  • Network Administration covering switches, wireless access points, routers, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP and VLANs.
  • Network Security - high level experience - including firewalls, web filtering, VPNs & Security Policies.
  • Managing IT Budgets, MSPs & external Suppliers.
  • Experience supporting classroom AV, projectors & interactive screens.
  • Knowledge of GDPR & IT-related legislation.
  • Strong communication, planning, troubleshooting & stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise competing demands and identify improvements.
  • Willingness to travel between sites and work flexibly across locations.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE:
  • Consolidating IT Services across multiple sites into a Shared Operating Model.
  • Standardising IT Platforms, Processes, Tools & Documentation.
  • Leading RFI/RFP exercises - MSP evaluation, vendor selection & supplier transitions.
  • Establishing or developing a Shared Service Desk.
  • Education Sector experience, including Management Information Systems, Safeguarding & Parent Communication Systems.
  • Google Workspace.
  • Cyber Security Frameworks - CIS Controls or Cyber Essentials.
  • VoIP & Telephony, Classroom Recording & Learning Management Systems.
  • Ticket Desk Analysis & Workflows.
  • ITIL or Project Management Certification.
