Job summary

Osborne Clarke is recruiting an IT Infrastructure Engineer to join our Bristol-based IT Services team. You will support global physical, virtual and cloud infrastructure, including networks, email, telephony and SaaS/PaaS/IaaS platforms, with a focus on reliability and security.

You will work in a hybrid role with some home working, contribute to migrations, and participate in incident/change management following ITIL practices while collaborating across IT services and suppliers.

Qualifications

  • Experience with major cloud platforms (Azure/AWS/GCP) and SaaS services.
  • Strong scripting and automation skills (PowerShell, Terraform, Ansible).
  • Knowledge of cloud networking, WAN/LAN/VPN and ExpressRoute/DirectConnect.
  • Proficiency in Windows Server and virtualization (VMware/Hyper-V).

Responsibilities

  • Provide 3rd line support for global infrastructure including cloud, on‑premise and SaaS services.
  • Assist with migrations, deployments and on-call escalations as part of IT Operations.
  • Maintain security and integrity of network, servers and data across platforms.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and IT teams to deliver projects and changes.
  • Contribute to testing, documentation and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed on new technologies and advise colleagues accordingly.

Role profile

Our IT Services team have an exciting opportunity for someone to join us as an IT Infrastructure Engineer (known internally as Platforms & Networks Operations Engineer). The successful candidate will provide 3rd line level support of Osborne Clarke's global Data and Voice Network Infrastructure, Platforms, Servers and Systems, whilst playing key roles in migrations and deployments enabling OC to sustain a well-established cloud-smart approach.

This is a permanent position based out of our Bristol office, combined with some home working.

What You'll Do

You will provide a comprehensive level of support to the global business for Osborne Clarke's physical, virtual and cloud infrastructure, connectivity including wired and wireless networks, and key services such as e-mail, telephony and SaaS, PaaS & IaaS platforms.

Key Duties Will Also Include
  • Provide professional support to Osborne Clarke so that our clients receive consistently excel-lent services. Understand and adopt the principles of acting as a professional service provider.
  • Support and follow Incident, Request, Change and Problem Management procedures along-side other IT Services teams, aligned with the ITIL framework.
  • Supporting, operating and managing the delivery of the operational platforms, hardware, operating systems and core technologies, including provision, documentation, maintenance etc.
  • Assist with specific escalations from the out-of-hours support team, where IT operations expertise is required, following an on-call rota in the team.
  • Maintaining and developing the integrity and security of all components comprising various client's network and operational platforms, including all data.
  • Working in collaboration with suppliers and other IT services teams to ensure the smooth de-livery of such products to the firm.
  • Contribute to testing processes and support infrastructure for internally or externally developed and applications/implementations.
  • Awareness of advances in technology, new software applications and new hardware in order to serve as an advisor to other employees.
Required Skills

We are looking for self-motivated individual who will enjoy working in a demanding Operations team, and has a keen interest in infrastructure and technology, with a drive to discover and learn more, working in a demanding Operations team with a high level of personal responsibility. We'll expect you to have good knowledge of cloud and virtualisation technologies, networking principles and Windows server architecture and services. Alongside this, a good working knowledge of Microsoft 365 and the Azure platform will also be needed. Further technical requirements can be found below:

  • Experience of a Major Cloud Platform (e.g. Azure, AWS or GCP).
  • Experience of managing and using SaaS solutions.
  • Scripting and Automation tools (e.g. Powershell, Terraform, Ansible, etc).
  • Cloud networking, Private cloud network interconnect (ExpressRoute, DirectConnect).
  • Experience Implementing & Managing Internet Services, WAN/LAN/VPN Data Comms.
  • Working knowledge of networking standards, hardware, and protocols.
  • Network monitoring and management systems (e.g. Solarwinds HCO & NPM).
  • Unified Communications telephony partners (e.g. Microsoft Teams).
  • Server and PC operating systems (e.g. Windows 11, Windows Server).
  • Virtualisation technologies (e.g. VMware or Hyper-V).
An Awareness Of Or Willingness To Learn
  • IT Service Management (ITIL)
  • Switch & WiFi Deployment. Extreme Networks, XIQ Cloud.
  • Security Solutions such as Checkpoint and Azure firewalls.
  • Microsoft Exchange Online with Exchange SE hybrid on-prem.
  • Microsoft Entra ID and Office 365 with E5 licensing.
  • Document Management Systems and other core legal applications.
  • Physical Infrastructure: Network/Server Hardware, Cabling, Datacentres.
  • Patch management systems including Azure Update Manager, SCCM, WSUS.
  • Microsoft SQL Server setup, licensing and Azure SQL management.
  • Call management solutions and workflow tools such as NiCE CXone and Service Now.
  • Zscaler ZPA and ZIA, Client Connector, Zero Trust Security, or equivalent services.
