Job summary

Department for Work and Pensions is seeking an IT Asset Manager to develop and implement IT Hardware Asset Management plans and procedures. You will identify, track, control, audit, and report on IT Hardware Assets in accordance with defined plans and schedules.

You will work closely with Digital colleagues, suppliers and operational teams to ensure assets are accurately recorded, managed and compliant throughout their lifecycle to support reliable public services.

Digital Workspaces provides technical infrastructure, used directly by Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) colleagues and citizens, and by other Digital services. It does this through seven main Product areas, one of which is Workplace Computing.


The Workplace Computing team own a complex set of infrastructure Products. We are responsible for providing, building, deploying, tracking, managing, and disposing of laptops, peripherals, and printers for approximately 125k Civil Servants, OGDs, contractors, and suppliers. The volume and complexity of that operation is significant, relying heavily on a mix of in‑house expertise and an extensive supply chain.


This is an excellent opportunity to be part of the Workplace Computing IT Asset Management Team (ITAM), responsible for circa 125k devices throughout their lifecycle. You'll play a key role in ensuring IT assets are accurately recorded, tracked, and managed via the ITAM Lifecycle, from acquisition through to disposal, helping DWP maintain a reliable and effective technology service for colleagues across the organisation.


Through effective management of asset data and processes, you will help ensure DWP colleagues have the technology they need to deliver vital services to the public across the network.


Job description

As an IT Asset Manager, you will develop and implement IT Hardware Asset Management plans and procedures.


This will entail agreeing the scope of plans and procedures with stakeholders and ensuring that changes to plans and procedures are properly assessed for impact and communicated.


You will identify, track, control, audit, and report on IT Hardware Assets and associated data in accordance with the defined plans, procedures, and schedules.


You will produce management reporting on areas of non‑compliance.


You will monitor Hardware Asset Management (HAM) procedures to ensure that they are fit for purpose and evaluate existing IT Asset Management systems, instigating improvement actions as required.


You will work closely with a range of stakeholders, including Digital colleagues, suppliers and operational teams, using data and insight to support decision‑making, improve processes and ensure DWP's technology assets are effectively managed, controlled and compliant throughout their lifecycle.


You will assure and maintain tools in support of Hardware Asset Management processes and report on the status of IT asset management processes and data. This will include providing management information on process effectiveness.


Please note: Whenever not essential and you will not be assessed against this, it would be desirable for you to hold a foundation ITIL certification. There will be an opportunity for you to achieve this qualification while in the role, if successful.

Hybrid Working

This role may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in their DWP office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non‑contractual arrangement and your office will be your contractual place of work.


If a hybrid working arrangement is suitable for the role and for you, you will normally be required to spend a minimum of 60% of your contracted working hours from your DWP office.

Salary Information

New entrants to the Civil Service will join on band minimum.


Existing Civil Servants who secure a new role on lateral transfer will maintain their current substantive salary.


Existing Civil Servants who gain promotion will move to the bottom of the grade pay scale or receive a 10% increase applied to their current substantive salary, whichever is greater.


Any temporary allowances that you are currently in receipt of will not form part of the calculation to determine your pay. Any allowances that are in payment will cease when you move into your new role.
