The position will be based in our Glasgow office, providing IT support via WGM’s IT Service Management system as well as over the telephone. It will run over a period of 30 months.

WGM (in partnership with QA Apprenticeships) has devised a programme of blended learning, split between on-the-job training with mentoring and guidance from peers, as well as formalised training from QA Apprenticeships. Successful candidates may have the opportunity to progress to a full-time role upon completion of this programme.

Main duties and responsibilities

• Assist the IT team in providing 1st line support to all staff across all WGM locations.
• Learn to record all issues via the IT Service Desk.
• Consistently deliver excellent customer service and maintain effective communication.
• Manage staff changes by liaising with appropriate business stakeholders, aligned with WGM’s “One Team” approach.
• Manage PC device logistics, including old device replacement and new device issuance.
• Handle software management, including deployment of standard and non-standard software, and participate in evaluation processes for additions to WGM’s software estate.
• Maintain Active Directory and other tracking/database systems, updating user details as needed to ensure accuracy.
• Assist in IT asset management, ensuring records are accurate.
• Learn basic hardware and software fault diagnosis, liaising with suppliers for fault resolution.
• Manage peripheral items, including maintaining stock levels, issuing items to staff, and record keeping.
• Liaise with third parties regarding old equipment disposal.

To be considered for this position, you should be a recent school or college leaver with a passion for working within the IT sector. Applicants must have at least 4 Nat 5 qualifications including Maths and English. Due to funding requirements, candidates must be aged between 16-19 years and demonstrate a genuine passion to learn and develop their skills.
