Job description

Introduction

We are looking for someone to join our team as a Quality Engineer. You will be working 4 days a week at IBM and studying 1 day a week at university for an IT: Software Development graduate (degree) apprenticeship.

Your role and responsibilities

As a Testing Engineer you will be part of a SCRUM / Agile Team, working within a team of DevOps, Developers and Business Analysts supporting one of the largest Public sector engagements in the UK for IBM. The Quality Assurance and Testing process across the lifecycle is enabled through test tooling such as CI/CD Pipelines and automated test frameworks.

• Work with AWS (Amazon Web Services) Infrastructure

• Work in a Cross functional SCRUM team with a Scrum Master, Developers, Business Analysts and Architects

• Gain a good understanding of requirement analysis (user stories, acceptance criteria), test types, testing techniques and tools

• Gain a good understanding of the CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins/Groovy

You will join IBM's Cloud Advisory practice with the opportunity to develop your career within IBM Consulting.

Your Apprenticeship

As an IT: Software Development graduate (degree) apprentice, you’ll learn all about designing, building and testing software. You'll work with new and emerging technologies and a wide range of people in a fast-paced, growing sector. You'll also understand how software development fits into a business environment.

The key content areas which make up the IT: Software Development Graduate Apprenticeship are:

Technology; Business; Personal and interpersonal; Project software and development management

There's an opportunity to experience University life and meet apprentices from other organisations during days at university and interactive learning sessions.

Required technical and professional expertise

All our apprenticeships are office based (if not on a client site) a minimum of 3 days a week, these are NOT remote roles. You need to live within commutable distance of IBM Glasgow location.

You will need to be mobile as all our apprenticeship roles will be client focused, and you may find yourself working at client sites or other IBM locations which could require extensive travel and staying away from home during the week.

You will need to resident in Scotland. This is a requirement for funding for the graduate apprenticeship via SAAS. (https://www.saas.gov.uk/full-time/graduate-apprenticeships-funding)

Roles require eligibility for Security Clearance.

You must be authorised to work in the UK without sponsorship.

Maths & English Scottish National 5 grade C or above or equivalent. (We may request a certificate of equivalency, which will be your responsibility to provide.)

Achieved/ predicted a minimum of four SQA Highers at Grade BBBB, ideally including Maths or Computing. If your grades are predicted, you will need to provide us with evidence of your grades on results day.

You cannot have already started or completed an apprenticeship or university course in a similar area.

You don't need to be studying technology, computer science or STEM subjects but you must have a keen interest and passion in technology. We’re seeking talented individual who are curious about Tech.

Start dates for 2025

We are looking for Apprentices who will start on the following date in 2025 - please note we cannot make any exceptions to this start date.
