Job summary

University Hospitals Dorset is recruiting an Inventory Controller to manage daily inventory and coordinate stock across designated areas. You will ensure timely access to supplies for patient care using inventory systems and barcode technology.

The role is full-time (37.5 hours) with potential weekend/bank holiday work; base location is Dorset County Hospital. You will be expected to support across Trust locations as needed and contribute to a high-performing procurement team.

Qualifications

  • CIPS certificate or NVQ3 in supply chain or related field.
  • Fork lift truck training completed.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Full driving licence held.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day inventory and stock control within designated areas.
  • Coordinate stock replenishment, ordering, receipt and storage.
  • Use barcode systems to ensure accurate records and compliant processes.
  • Support clinical and operational teams with timely supplies for patient care.

Job overview

The Inventory Controller is responsible for the day-to-day management and coordination of inventory services within designated areas of the Trust. The role ensures that clinical and operational teams have timely access to the products and supplies required to support patient care. Using inventory management systems and barcode technology, the post holder manages stock replenishment, ordering, receipt, storage, distribution, and stock control activities while maintaining accurate records and compliance with Trust procedures

The role is a full time 37.5-hour week. As required, you may need to work the occasional weekend and bank holiday working

Qualifications
  • Attainment of Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) certificate/foundation level qualifications or NVQ level 3 qualification in a supply chain, customer care or transferable subject or equivalent training and/or proven professional experience
  • Fork lift truck training
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Full car driving licence
Experience / Knowledge
  • Experience of inventory / materials management or warehousing processes
  • Knowledge of operational buying processes, goods receipt/return etc.
  • Knowledge of inventory management systems and theory
  • Operational experience gained within a multifunctional procurement or supply chain te
  • Good keyboard skills with working knowledge of applications including MS Word, MS Excel and MS Outlook
  • Able to operate simple machinery to facilitate safe manual handling
Personal Attributes
  • Good customer care & approachable attitude
  • Able to undertake manual handling tasks
  • Able to work flexibly within a shift pattern which may include occasional weekend and bank holiday working
