Responsibilities include validating ROMA data, ensuring UK GAAP compliance, and coordinating stock takes. Strong Excel/Power BI skills and ERP experience are essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities

• Produce in-depth analysis of inventory KPIs—stock levels, age, and trends—with clear narrative and recommendations to support management decision-making.
• Interpret complex inventory data to identify trends, risks and opportunities, translating findings into actionable insight for purchasing, merchandising and senior stakeholders.
• Investigate and diagnose the root causes of inventory discrepancies, quantifying their financial impact and recommending corrective action to minimise stock-losses across all sites and DCs.
• Build forecasting and trend models that anticipate stock issues before they occur, partnering with buying and supply chain teams to shape future purchasing decisions.
• Present insight and recommendations to non-finance audiences, influencing decisions through clear, data-driven storytelling.

As a result of our continued growth and ongoing success, we are seeking a dynamic Inventory Accountant to join our Head Office team in Plymouth.

About the Role:

This role sits at the interface between data and decision-making. The Inventory Accountant is a key analytical role within our supply chain, going beyond monitoring and reporting on inventory levels to provide in-depth analysis of stock levels, age, trends and discrepancies, translating that insight into actionable recommendations that drive purchasing efficiency and maximise profit across the business.

Responsibilities:

Analysis & Insight:

• Produce in-depth analysis of inventory KPIs — stock levels, age, and trends — with clear narrative and recommendations to support management decision-making.

Control & Governance:

• Ensuring accuracy and integrity in our core inventory data system (ROMA), as the foundation for reliable analysis.
• Ensure accurate inventory valuations and compliance with UK GAAP.
• Ensure strong financial governance, control, and adherence to Group financial policies.
• Co-ordinate with stores, DCs and auditors on all aspects of physical stock takes, ensuring count processes are robust and support a true valuation of inventory.
• Provide input on company policies and procedures relating to inventory with a continuous improvement mindset.

Person Specification:

• Advanced Excel and Power BI skills with the ability to analyse complex data sets, translating insights into actions.
• Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to translate financial concepts for non-finance audiences.
• Part-qualified accountant (or equivalent experience) with strong analytical capability.
• Strong analytical skills with attention to detail, excellent numerical skills with an ability to spot inaccuracies.
• Demonstrable experience with accounting software and ERP systems.
• Highly collaborative, innovative, and commercially minded, with strong business acumen.
