Job summary

The British Council is recruiting a Programme Officer for the International, Chevening & Marshall Scholarships to support the delivery of the Chevening programme across UK posts and overseas partners.

The role focuses on scholarship administration, stakeholder liaison, payments, and events, with duties including shortlisting, welfare and immigration queries, and collaboration with embassies, universities and alumni.

Qualifications

  • Degree level education or equivalent experience.
  • Understanding of the experience and needs of international higher education students in the UK.
  • Basic knowledge of postgraduate higher education in the UK.
  • Basic knowledge of international relations to support scholars and Posts worldwide.
  • Ability to work flexibly at pace in a busy team and meet deadlines.
  • Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion in work plans.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the first point of contact for scholars, fellows and Posts with queries and provide timely responses.
  • Use internal systems to manage payments, stipends and other allowances to scholars and universities.
  • Maintain trackers and databases for payments, travel details and scholarship information.
  • Conduct visits to scholars and fellows across the UK to monitor well‑being and compliance.
  • Support events for scholars, fellows and partners, in the UK or overseas.
  • Develop and update briefing materials for scholars and stakeholders; support training sessions.
  • Collaborate with team members and external partners to deliver the programme.
