Could you use your understanding of the international landscape to identify opportunities, connect ideas across markets and strengthen the IET’s global impact?

Up to £60,000 Permanent / Full Time Stevenage with Hybrid Working

At the IET, making our world a better place starts by creating a better place for our people.

At the IET you’ll have more than just a job. Our work is exciting and challenging, connecting the people who solve the problems that matter. It means working with us has real meaning and impact, and you’ll grow – professionally and personally – in ways you never thought possible.

We’re also making significant investments in our people, including providing a modern, vibrant workplace and embracing hybrid working.

What you'll be doing

As our International Relations and Business Manager, you’ll play a key role in developing the IET’s international presence, combining commercial thinking with strong relationship management and a deep understanding of the international engineering and professional landscape.

Working closely with Country Heads, international teams and UK colleagues, you’ll develop market strategies, oversee business performance and identify opportunities to grow our products, services and relationships. You’ll use your knowledge of different markets to understand where opportunities exist, what is driving change and how successful approaches could be adapted and applied elsewhere.

Working closely with Country Heads, who retain ownership of their individual market P&Ls, you’ll provide oversight of international financial and commercial performance, using business planning, forecasting, revenue and growth insight to inform decisions and identify opportunities. You’ll also manage your own international work orders, including for delegations and travel, ensuring these are planned and managed effectively.

A major part of the role will be building and maintaining a strong international network. You’ll develop trusted relationships with governments, academia, Professional Engineering Institutions (PEIs), industry bodies and other organisations, creating opportunities for collaboration, knowledge sharing and mutual benefit. You’ll understand the wider international landscape and use those relationships to keep the IET connected, informed and well positioned within key markets.

You’ll also provide strategic oversight of our international operations, ensuring appropriate governance, structures and processes are in place. This means balancing commercial opportunity with organisational reputation, regulatory requirements and the needs of our international stakeholders.

What we hope you can bring to the role

We’re looking for an experienced international business professional who has already worked across multiple countries, markets or regions and understands how cultural, political, economic and business differences influence international relationships and growth.

Strong commercial and financial acumen is essential. You’ll have experience of business planning, forecasting, budgeting and performance management, with the ability to understand and oversee financial performance across multiple markets. You’ll be comfortable using financial and market information to challenge performance, identify opportunities and make sound commercial decisions.

You’ll also be a natural relationship builder. You’ll have the confidence to engage senior stakeholders across government, academia, PEIs, professional bodies and industry, developing relationships that go beyond individual transactions to create opportunities for collaboration, knowledge exchange and longer‑term strategic value.

You’ll bring a strong understanding of the international landscape and be able to connect what is happening in one market with opportunities elsewhere. Whether identifying a new partnership, understanding an emerging market trend or recognising where an approach could be replicated internationally, you’ll be commercially curious and able to turn insight into action.

Strong cultural awareness is important. You’ll understand that successful international relationships require more than simply applying a UK approach in another country, and will be comfortable adapting your communication, influencing style and commercial approach to different cultures and environments.

Above all, you’ll combine strategic thinking with the ability to get things done — building relationships, spotting opportunities, making informed decisions and bringing people together around a shared objective..

Please note, the role will require regular international travel, so the successful candidate must hold a valid passport and be prepared to travel.
