Job summary

Civic Recruitment Limited is assisting a council in recruiting an Interim Planning Lawyer to provide specialist planning law advice, manage a complex caseload and support planning committees. The role requires 4+ years PQE and strong drafting and negotiation skills in planning matters.

Hybrid working is available, with attendance at evening meetings as required. The postholder will advise officers and elected members, coordinate with counsel and external solicitors, and help maintain governance

Qualifications

• Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or CILEX Fellow.
• Minimum 4 years post-qualification experience (PQE).
• Experience advising on Planning Law matters.
• Experience drafting and negotiating planning-related documents (Section 106, Highway Agreements, Planning Obligations).
• Experience handling Planning Appeals and Judicial Reviews.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialist legal advice on planning and related local government matters.
• Manage a complex planning law caseload with minimal supervision.
• Advise officers, senior managers, directors and elected members on planning and regulatory matters.
• Draft, review and negotiate Section 106 Agreements, Highway Agreements, Planning Licences, Legal Undertakings and related documents.
• Support planning enforcement activity and associated legal processes.
• Advise on planning applications and development proposals.
• Assist with Planning Appeals, Public Inquiries and Judicial Review proceedings.
• Prepare legal reports, committee reports and briefing notes.
• Attend Planning Committees as legal advisor and deputise for Senior Planning Lawyer when required.
