Job summary

Essex County Council is recruiting an Insurance and Risk Manager for EFDC to lead the Council's insurance function, advise on risk and procurement, and maintain the corporate risk register. The role is on-site, full-time, initially four weeks, with a 36-hour week and an on-site requirement three days per week.

Senior insurance experience and strong negotiation skills are essential; you will work across services to mitigate risks and ensure governance, probity and effective insurance strategies

Qualifications

• Senior insurance experience in a large organisation.
• Local government experience desirable but not essential.
• Experience leading significant insurance tenders and renewals.
• Strong understanding of risk management.
• Proven ability to lead and motivate colleagues, partners and members.

Responsibilities

• Lead the insurance function and procurement of the Council's insurance contracts.
• Maintain the Council's corporate risk register and mitigate risks.
• Provide strategic insurance advice to Members and officers.
• Act as lead officer on internal/external briefings and committees.
• Collaborate across services to identify and mitigate corporate risks.
