Job summary

Grafton Banks Finance are recruiting an Interim Financial Controller on behalf of an SME construction business near Manchester. The role is hands-on, for 3–6 months, and will manage the full finance function while a permanent post is recruited.

The successful candidate will be ACCA/ACA/CIMA qualified with a strong track record in interim turnaround roles, advanced Excel skills, and familiarity with accounting software. Availability on short notice is preferred.

Qualifications

• Qualified ACCA, ACA or CIMA with a verifiable track record in interim turnaround roles.
• Experience in construction, engineering or building backgrounds preferred.
• Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with accounting software.

Responsibilities

• Deliver accurate monthly management accounts, variance analysis and board packs.
• Budgeting and forecasting, including rolling quarterly forecasts.
• Coordinate annual budget formulation and maintain rolling forecasts.
• Oversee compliance and tax obligations, including statutory filings and audits as required.
• Strengthen internal controls and risk management frameworks.
• Lead and develop the day-to-day transaction processing team.
• Manage cash flow forecasting and balance client receipts with subcontractor payments.

Grafton Banks Finance are working with an SME Construction business based on the outskirts of Manchester to recruit a robust, commercially minded, and completely hands-on Interim Financial Controller for a period of 3-6 months to manage the finance function whilst the company recruit a permanent Financial controller.

Duties and Responsibilities will include:

• Deliver accurate, high-quality monthly management accounts, variance analysis, and executive board packs.
• Budgeting & Forecasting
• Coordinate annual budget formulation and maintain rolling quarterly financial forecasts
• Compliance & Tax
• Supervise statutory filings, corporate tax returns, and serve as the principal liaison for external financial audits.
• Establish, monitor, and enforce corporate internal controls and risk management frameworks.
• Team Leadership: Mentor, manage, and elevate the performance of the day-to-day transaction processing team.
• Cash Flow Management: Oversee tight weekly cash flow forecasting to balance client receipts against subcontractor and material payments
• Financial Controls: Strengthen on-site procurement controls,

The successful candidate will be qualified ACCA, ACA or CIMA with a verifiable track record in interim turn around roles. You will ideally have experience of working within the construction, engineering, building back ground and be technically strong with Advanced Excel skills and familiar with accounting software packages.

Due to the interim nature of this position, you will need to be available at short notice to commence the interim assignment. You will need to live locally to be on site 3-4 days a week. For your experience you will be rewarded with a competitive day rate.
