Job summary

Arthur Recruitment partners with a leading general insurer in the London Market to appoint a Financial Controller who will own statutory, management and group reporting and drive a forward-looking financial control strategy across the business.

Reporting to the CFO, you will oversee monthly close, IFRS 17 reporting and Solvency UK regulatory returns while mentoring the accounting team and collaborating with actuarial on technical provisions.

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant with post-qualification experience in London Market or general insurance.
• Experience leading financial accounting and reporting functions.
• Knowledge of regulatory reporting standards and solvency regimes.

Responsibilities

• Oversee statutory, management and group reporting under FRS 102/FRS 103.
• Lead IFRS 17 quarterly reporting and Solvency UK regulatory returns.
• Manage external audits and internal control frameworks.
• Collaborate with actuarial teams on reserves and technical provisions.
• Mentor and develop the financial accounting team; drive finance system improvements.

Job description

We are partnering with a leading general insurer in the London Market to recruit a Financial Controller to lead their Financial Accounting & Reporting function. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, this role will take full ownership of statutory, management and group reporting while driving a forward-thinking financial control strategy across the business.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee monthly close processes, manage insurance/reinsurance accounting and deliver statutory financial statements under FRS 102 and FRS 103.
• Lead quarterly head office reporting and reforecasting on an IFRS 17 basis and produce Solvency UK and international regulatory returns.
• Act as the main contact for external audit workflows, manage internal control frameworks and monitor currency exposures.
• Partner with actuarial teams on reserving data integrity, Solvency UK Technical Provisions and serve as a member of the Reserving Committee.
• Mentoring, leading and developing a team of financial accountants, while championing finance systems optimisation and transformation initiatives.

Key Qualifications & Skills:

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA) with significant post-qualification experience in London Market or general insurance.
• Proven expertise across IFRS, IFRS 17, Solvency UK and statutory reporting standards.
• Strong track record of team leadership, stakeholder management and collaborating with actuarial teams on technical provisions.
