Job summary

Edenbrook, a leading specialty reinsurance MGA in the United Kingdom, is seeking a Financial Controller to lead financial reporting and controls across a multi-entity business. Working closely with the Finance Director, you will own the close process and provide strong financial governance to enable informed decision-making.

The role requires a qualified accountant with insurance sector experience, a track record of improving controls, and the ability to manage a team across entities.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Own the month-end, quarter-end and year-end close processes.
• Oversee income, commissions, expenses, accruals and intercompany balances.
• Maintain balance sheet integrity through reconciliations and substantiation.
• Lead cash and working capital controls including reconciliations.
• Strengthen the financial control framework and governance.
• Produce management reporting aligned to GL and systems.
• Investigate variances and data issues with cross-functional teams.
• Coordinate statutory accounts, audits and tax information.
• Drive continuous improvement across finance processes and systems.
• Support budgeting, forecasting and board reporting.

Job description

We are working with a leading specialty reinsurance MGA that is looking to appoint a Financial Controller to play a key role within its finance function.

This is a senior finance position with responsibility for the integrity, control and timely delivery of financial reporting across a complex, multiline insurance business. Working closely with the Finance Director, Group Finance, underwriting, operations and external auditors, you will provide strong financial control and a reliable foundation for commercial decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the month-end, quarter-end and year-end close process, ensuring accurate and timely delivery.
• Oversee accounting for income, commissions, expenses, accruals, prepayments, intercompany balances and other material transactions.
• Maintain strong balance sheet integrity through reconciliations, substantiation, ageing analysis and resolution of outstanding items.
• Lead cash and working capital controls, including bank, premium and commission reconciliations.
• Maintain and strengthen the financial control framework, ensuring appropriate processes, ownership and governance are in place.
• Produce accurate management reporting and ensure information reconciles to the general ledger and underlying systems.
• Investigate financial variances and data issues, working collaboratively with Finance, Operations and Underwriting to resolve issues at source.
• Coordinate statutory accounts, audit requirements, tax information and Group reporting.
• Drive continuous improvement across finance processes and systems, reducing manual activity and strengthening controls.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, Board reporting, regulatory matters and wider commercial analysis.

About You

• Experience within an MGA, insurance carrier, broker or other complex regulated financial services environment is highly desirable.
• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with strong post-qualified experience in financial control or senior accounting.
• Strong technical accounting, financial reporting, balance sheet control, cash management and audit experience.
• Good understanding of MGA finance, including premium, commission, insurer and broker balances, IBA processes and profit commission.
• Proven experience managing a robust close process across multiple business units, products or legal entities.
• Strong track record of improving financial controls, reconciliations, reporting processes and finance systems.
• Previous experience managing and developing finance or accounting teams.
