Job summary

g2 Recruitment is seeking an Interim Assistant Capital/Closedown Accountant to join our client in the West Midlands. The role offers Hybrid or Fully Remote working and can be filled as Full-Time or Part-Time.

You will support the Capital Accountant with statements of accounts, capital disclosures, fixed assets, grants, and year-end reporting, while handling external audit queries and ensuring CIPFA-compliant Local Authority finance.

Qualifications

• Experience in Local Authority Finance.
• Strong capital accounting knowledge.
• Experience with final accounts / Statement of Accounts.
• Ability to work with external auditors.
• Familiarity with CIPFA Code and local government standards.

Responsibilities

• Support the Capital Accountant with the preparation of the Statement of Accounts and relevant disclosures.
• Own a significant portion of external audit queries, preparing working papers and response packs.
• Maintain and reconcile capital accounting records including fixed assets and grants.
• Assist with capital programme monitoring and reporting requirements.
• Ensure compliance with CIPFA Code and Local Government accounting regulations.
• Collaborate with the finance team to complete year-end financial reporting.
• Bring experience in Local Authority Finance and capital accounting to the team.

Interim Assistant Capital/Closedown Accountant – West Midlands

Start Date: ASAP

Location: Hybrid / Fully Remote

Hours: Full-Time or Part-Time Considered

Key Responsibilities

• Support the Capital Accountant with the preparation of the Statement of Accounts, ensuring capital accounting disclosures and supporting schedules are completed accurately.
• Take ownership of a significant proportion of external audit queries, preparing working papers, evidence packs and responding to auditor requests.
• Maintain and reconcile capital accounting records, including fixed assets, capital grants, capital financing and capital expenditure.
• Assist with capital programme monitoring and reporting requirements.
• Ensure compliance with CIPFA Code requirements and Local Government accounting regulations.
• Work closely with the wider finance team to support the successful completion of year-end financial reporting.
• Previous experience working within Local Authority Finance.
• Strong knowledge and practical experience of capital accounting.
• Experience supporting the preparation of final accounts / Statement of Accounts.
• Proven track record of dealing with external audit requirements and audit queries.
• Good understanding of the CIPFA Code of Practice and Local Government accounting standards.
• Ability to work independently and quickly add value within an established finance team.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
