Job summary

Butler Rose is seeking an experienced Interim Accountant in Plymouth for a 3‑month assignment. The role offers hands-on involvement across the finance function, with exposure to management accounts, year-end work, audit queries, forecasting and budgeting in a purpose‑driven educational setting.

The successful candidate will have strong accounting credentials, experience in not-for-profit environments, and the ability to work independently while collaborating with a finance team.

Qualifications

• Qualified, part-qualified or qualified by experience accountant.
• Experience in education, academy trust, school, charity or not-for-profit environment is advantageous.
• Strong management accounting and financial reporting skills.
• Experience with year-end processes and audit preparation.

Responsibilities

• Preparation of monthly management accounts.
• Support year-end processes and statutory reporting requirements.
• Assist with audit preparation and respond to audit queries.
• Financial forecasting and budget monitoring.

Temporary Accountant Job in Plymouth for 3 months.

An exciting educational organisation in Plymouth is seeking an experienced Temporary Accountant to join its finance team on an interim basis until the end of December 2026.

This is a varied and hands-on role that will provide vital support across the finance function, offering exposure to a wide range of accounting and finance activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Preparation of monthly management accounts
• Supporting year-end processes and statutory reporting requirements
• Assisting with audit preparation and responding to audit queries
• Financial forecasting and budget monitoring

About You

• Qualified, part-qualified or qualified by experience accountant
• Previous experience within an education, academy trust, school, charity or not-for-profit environment would be highly advantageous
• Strong management accounting and financial reporting skills
• Experience of year-end processes and audit preparation
• Ability to work independently while supporting a collaborative finance team
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
• Good working knowledge of financial systems and Excel
