Job summary

dxw is seeking an Interaction Designer to work in multidisciplinary teams, shaping accessible, user-centred public services. You’ll own design work from discovery to live beta, collaborating with researchers, designers, developers and clients.

Salary £40,000 – £46,000 (FTE), dependent upon experience. 37.5 hour week Contract Full-time, permanent, with flexible working options available. Location Anywhere in the UK, with some national travel required to meet teams and clients. Office locations are London and Leeds. Application deadline 09/10/2026

About the role

As an Interaction Designer at dxw, you’ll be a hands-on designer working in multidisciplinary teams to design accessible, user-centred public services. You’ll help shape interfaces and interactions across digital services so they are usable, inclusive and effective across channels and support options, including assistive technologies.

This is a practitioner role suited to someone with experience in interaction, UX or product design. You’ll contribute directly to client delivery, working closely with user researchers, content designers, developers and delivery colleagues. You’ll be expected to take ownership of your design work, collaborate openly with others and involve teams and clients in the design process.

You’ll typically spend most of your time on client-facing project work, contributing design expertise across different phases — from discovery and strategy through to beta and live — while continuing to develop your craft with support from the wider design community at dxw.

Key responsibilities

Interaction design and prototyping

• Design accessible, user-centred interfaces to support people’s interactions with systems and services
• Create prototypes at appropriate levels of fidelity — from paper sketches to design tool prototypes and simple coded prototypes — to support exploration and testing.
• Use evidence, research findings and design experience to make sound design decisions.
• Select appropriate design tools and methods based on the team, project context and desired outcomes.

Working in multidisciplinary teams

• Work as part of multidisciplinary teams, collaborating with user researchers, content designers, developers and delivery leads.
• Interpret and help communicate research findings through design artefacts and prototypes.
• Facilitate and contribute to workshops and co-design sessions, involving the wider team and clients in design activities.
• Contribute to projects of different sizes and types — from large delivery teams designing interfaces to smaller strategy engagements exploring new possibilities.

Accessibility and inclusive design

• Put user needs first throughout the design process, with a strong focus on accessibility and inclusive design.
• Design services that work across channels and support options, including assistive technologies.
• Ensure designs support long-term sustainability and continuous improvement by client organisations.

Communication and collaboration

• Communicate complex ideas and design decisions clearly, visually and verbally, to colleagues and clients.
• Give and receive constructive feedback and challenge ideas in a supportive way.
• Contribute to telling the story of our work through design outputs that help clients and teams understand problems and solutions.

Contributing to practice at dxw

• Share learning, successes and failures with the design community at dxw.
• Support continuous improvement in design practice and ways of working.
• Take responsibility for your own learning and professional development.
