Job summary

Transport for Wales is seeking an Insurance Claims Handler on a 12-month fixed-term contract, 30 hours per week, to administer and fairly handle claims, investigate liability and quantum, and make recommendations on settlements. You will identify potentially fraudulent claims, liaise with legal teams and insurers, and maintain accurate records to support management reporting.

The role requires good negotiation skills, knowledge of liability and property/PI/motor claims, and the ability to engage

Qualifications

• Hold a relevant Insurance or Legal qualification such as Cert CII, LLB, CILEX or similar, or have equivalent experience.
• Demonstrable experience in a Liability Claims handling role.
• Ability to problem solve and interrogate data and information to identify the root cause(s) of problems.
• Working knowledge of property damage, personal injury and motor claims.
• Ability to Identify potential fraudulent claims.
• Negotiation and conflict management skills.
• Ability to engage with multiple stakeholders across different business levels from Executive level to frontline staff.

Responsibilities

• Accurately record all new Insurance claims onto the Claims Handling Information System, ensuring required fields are completed and reserves are recorded.
• Request documentation from managers, safety teams and stakeholders to support liability and quantum investigations and SLA compliance.
• Assess documentation in line with legislation and advise on causation, liability and quantum, flagging fraudulent claims.
• Liaise with Legal & Insurance Manager and other stakeholders to provide updates and manage settlements.
• Negotiate fair and timely settlements with claimants or their representatives to protect TfW's assets.
• Monitor and update the claims management system for accurate reporting to management.
• Assist with improving service procedures to mitigate incident risks and protect TfW's position.
• Assist with insurances administration and renewal, liaising with solicitors, brokers and insurers.
• Perform other duties as required by the Legal & Insurance Manager and deputise during absences.

Job description

Please note: this is a 12 month fixed-term contract, working 30 hours a week.

TheRole

The Insurance Claims Handler is responsible for the administration and effective and fair handling of the Transport for Wales (TfW) group's Insurance claims by registering the claims, requesting documentation to investigate liability and quantum, and making recommendations on settlement whilst identifying any potential spurious or fraudulent claims.

Role responsibilities

• Accurately record all new Insurance claims received onto the departments Claims Handling Information System, ensuring that all required fields are completed, and the claim is registered against the correct department and that an adequate reserve is recorded.
• Request all available documentation from managers, safety team and any other stakeholder department in a timely manner to support the investigation of the claim, both in liability and quantum and to ensure that TfW are complying with all legal timescales when handling any internal or external Service Level Agreements (SLA's).
• Assess all documentation in line with current legislation and advise on causation, liability and quantum ensuring that any potential spurious or fraudulent claims are flagged to protect TfW's funds.
• Regularly liaise with the Legal & Insurance Manager and stakeholders such as Transport for Wales Rail Ltd (the train operator), Amey Infrastructure Wales (the infrastructure managers), AMEY, Subsidiary companies of TfW and TfW's Insurers to provided face to face updates and to receive and provide instructions on the settlement of claims.
• Liaise with the claimant, claimant's legal representatives to negotiate a fair and equitable settlement of valid claims in a timely, appropriate, and expeditious manner in order to protect TfW's assets, financial interests and reputation.
• Regularly monitor and update the claims management system to ensure that all claims information held is updated correctly to ensure accurate reporting data can be provided to management.
• Assist with identifying any areas for improvement in service procedures to ensure that the risks of an incident occurring are mitigated, and proper records are maintained to maximise the chances of a successful defence of a claim.
• Assist with the administration and renewal of the insurances for TfW by obtaining relevant documentation as required by the Legal & Insurance Manager, brokers and Insurers and assist with the management of the Insurance policies, working with our solicitors, brokers and insurers on any policy queries and claims to ensure they act in accordance with our instructions
• Perform other such duties as required by theLegal & Insurance Manager from time to time and deputise in periods of absence.

Who we're looking for
