Job summary

Plowman Craven Limited is seeking an Instrumentation and Monitoring Technical Manager to join its Smart Monitoring division in London. The role covers design, installation, commissioning and ongoing performance of monitoring systems across multiple projects.

You will coordinate with project and site teams, develop technical solutions, and ensure reliable data collection and transmission from sites to monitoring platforms.

Qualifications

• Background in engineering, surveying or a related technical discipline.
• Experience within construction, infrastructure, automated monitoring or a similar technical environment.
• Practical experience installing and commissioning instrumentation, electrical or technical systems.
• Knowledge of geotechnical or structural instrumentation and automated monitoring systems used in civil engineering.
• Experience with telemetry, IoT systems, data acquisition platforms or monitoring software.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications and system requirements, with a proactive approach to troubleshooting.
• Strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills, with flexibility for site activities outside standard hours.
• Experience with Python scripting and cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Managing the technical delivery of monitoring systems across multiple projects, coordinating with project and site teams to ensure successful implementation.
• Developing monitoring system designs and technical solutions to meet project requirements.
• Supporting and undertaking the installation, commissioning and maintenance of monitoring equipment and instrumentation.
• Configuring and integrating sensors, data loggers, telemetry systems and software platforms to ensure reliable data collection and transmission.
• Diagnosing technical faults, resolving system issues and identifying opportunities to improve performance and reliability.
• Maintaining quality assurance standards, technical documentation, testing records and as-built information.
• Contributing to the development of new technologies, processes and ways of working to improve efficiency and technical delivery.
