HS2 Ltd. is seeking an Instrumentation and Monitoring Engineer to join the Design And Engineering team in Birmingham.

The role involves supporting setting out, installing monitoring instruments, and maintaining systems across a complex urban environment including tunnels and bridges. You will work across installation, calibration, and data handling tasks, collaborating with internal stakeholders, and adapting to unsociable hours as needed.

Competenze

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in engineering or surveying.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Communication skills with internal stakeholders.
• Demonstrated proactive approach and strong attention to detail.
• Able to communicate requirements of a safe system of work.
• Strong work ethic with flexibility to work unsociable hours/nights.
• Able to work on own initiative and seek opportunities.

HS2, Britain’s new high-speed railway is at peak construction. Balfour Beatty VINCI is HS2’s construction partner in the Midlands, responsible for delivering 90km of the route, from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.

Current Opportunity:Instrumentation and Monitoring Engineer – Design And Engineering

Location:

Based in Birmingham - the Central Region runs from the east of Birmingham into the city centre, comprising Sublot Delta, 1B, 4 and 5S. More than 50% of the structures within IPT Area North are located in the Central Region. This region, which covers a complex urban environment, also includes the 3.5 mile twin bore Bromford Tunnel. It also includes Interchange Station, as well as crossing three major highways (A45, M6 and M42).

• Support setting out and control checks where required
• Carry out installation of monitoring instruments (e.g. prisms, targets, PLPs)
• Assist in maintenance and inspection of instrumentation systems
• Prepare and check survey/monitoring equipment before site works
• Assist with calibration and maintenance of equipment
• Ensure proper storage and cleanliness
• Assist with basic data processing and upload (e.g. Mission OS / similar platforms)
• Maintain accurate installation and monitoring records

• A bachelor’s degree, or equivalent qualification or proven experience, in an engineering or surveying discipline.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
• Communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with a variety of internal stakeholders.
• Demonstrated proactive approach and strong attention to detail in all aspects of work.
• Able to clearly communicate the requirements of a safe system of work to ensure that these are followed accurately
• Strong work ethic with flexibility to work unsociable hours/nights
• Able to work on own initiative and seek out opportunities in line with level of responsibility
