Job summary

Caterpillar Desford is seeking an Instrumentation Engineer to join the Product Development, Test & Validation team. You will provide instrumentation, measurement and data-acquisition expertise for machine and test-rig validation, supporting the full lifecycle from requirements to data-quality verification.

The role emphasizes safe installation, sensor selection, and ensuring high-quality test data to support confident product decisions in Caterpillar’s construction equipment domain.

Qualifications

• Applies instrumentation and data-acquisition knowledge to select and configure equipment.
• Checks sensor config, scaling and calibration data for accuracy and traceability.
• Diagnoses instrumentation or data-acquisition issues using systematic methods.
• Supports machine/component/test-rig testing with proper instrumentation and data capture.

Responsibilities

• Define instrumentation and data-acquisition requirements with test engineers and product teams.
• Plan, install and commission instrumentation systems on equipment and test rigs.
• Configure data-acquisition systems to capture accurate, repeatable data.
• Monitor data quality, verify channel configuration and calibration information.
• Maintain instrumentation equipment and records for calibration and obsolescence.
• Support ISO/IEC 17025 practices in the lab and test methods.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to share knowledge on instrumentation.
