Tradewind Recruitment LTD. is seeking an Instructor / Unqualified Teacher for a PRU/Alternative Provision in Burnley, Lancashire. Immediate start with a temp-to-perm pathway and a salary up to £33k pro rata. QTS is not required.

You will teach small high-support groups of pupils with SEMH needs and neurodiverse profiles, delivering core and vocational lessons while providing strong pastoral mentorship and behaviour guidance.

Qualifications

• Experience leading classes or interventions in PRU/AP or SEMH settings.
• Degree level qualification; QTS not required.
• Team Teach/MAPA or positive handling cert is an advantage.
• Enhanced DBS and checkable references required.

Responsibilities

• Plan, adapt and deliver lessons across core subjects or vocational projects.
• Lead small classes (4-8 pupils) with support from Learning Support Assistants.
• Use non-confrontational de-escalation and trauma-informed methods.
• Track learner progress and set targets to re-engage pupils.
• Serve as a pastoral mentor to foster confidence, attendance and wellbeing.
• Transition from temporary trial into a permanent school contract.

Instructor / Unqualified Teacher - PRU / Alternative Provision

Location: Burnley, Lancashire (covering Burnley, Pendle & surrounding areas)

Contract Type: Full-Time, Temporary to Permanent (Temp-to-Perm)

Start Date: Immediate / After Half Term

Have you got the presence, rapport, and practical skills to lead a classroom without holding QTS? We are recruiting a dynamic, resilient Instructor / Unqualified Teacher to join a forward-thinking Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) / Alternative Provision (AP) based in the Burnley area, serving learners across East Lancashire. This is a fantastic temp-to-perm pathway offering up to £33,000 per annum (pro rata / day rate equivalent). It is purpose-built for experienced Cover Supervisors, Specialist HLTAs, Sports Coaches, Youth Workers, or Vocational Instructors ready to take full ownership of classroom planning, delivery, and pastoral mentorship without the requirement of Qualified Teacher Status.

You will teach small, high-support groups of young people who have disengaged from mainstream education, working predominantly with pupils who have Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, neurodiverse profiles (ASC, ADHD), and associated behavioural challenges.

Role & Responsibilities

• Plan, adapt, and deliver engaging lessons across core subjects, functional skills, or vocational/practical projects tailored to individual student interests.


• Lead small classes (typically 4-8 pupils) supported by experienced Learning Support Assistants.


• Manage classroom dynamics proactively using non-confrontational de-escalation, restorative practice, and trauma-informed methods.


• Track learner progress, set attainable targets, and help re-engage pupils who have faced significant barriers in previous school settings.


• Serve as a key pastoral mentor, building high-trust relationships that foster confidence, emotional regulation, and attendance.


• Transition seamlessly from an initial temporary trial into a permanent school contract.

Candidate Profile & Requirements

• Experience: Proven track record leading classes or running structured learning interventions within an Alternative Provision, PRU, SEMH school, secondary setting, or youth outreach service.


• Qualifications: Degree level, HLTA status, or specialist vocational/sports qualifications desirable; QTS is not required.


• Behaviour Management: Confident, de-escalation-focused approach; certification in Team Teach, MAPA, or positive handling is an advantage (or willingness to complete training).


• Mindset: Firm, fair, highly empathetic, and resilient-someone who looks past challenging behaviour to understand the young person behind it.


• Safeguarding: Must hold or be willing to process an Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service, with full, checkable employment references.


• Location: Based in or easily commutable to Burnley (accessible from Blackburn, Accrington, Colne, Nelson, and Rossendale).
