Job summary

Hitachi Energy HVDC Installation Department is seeking a skilled Installation Manager to oversee on-site electrical and mechanical installation activities in large-scale HVDC projects. Responsibilities

  • Manage installations on site (AC and DC) in high-voltage projects globally.
  • Support subcontracting activities related to installation work.
  • Read and understand contractual documentation to deliver per contract.
  • Lead the preparation and planning of installation activities early in projects.
  • Guide subcontractors on site to complete installation activities safely, on time and within budget.
  • Contribute to planning and implementation of installation activities on site.
  • Coordinate installation activities with the Site Manager and other stakeholders.
  • Coach and manage Installation Supervisors.
  • Coordinate with engineering to ensure documentation is used on site and provide as-built mark-ups.
  • Maintain relationships with suppliers.

HVDC is a product group in Hitachi Energy which develops, manufactures, and sells DC transmission systems on a global market. We are looking for a person who is interested in working for a market leader in the electrical power infrastructure business. You would be working on large-scale projects focused on enabling the transmission of green energy.

You will become part of the Hitachi Energy HVDC Installation Department, a global organisation with team members in 15+ countries, responsible for executing all mechanical and electrical installation activities in our delivery projects worldwide.

This role is site-based, with travel included. The first project assignment will be based in Peterhead for approximately 18 months. After this project is completed, we have further projects located in the same area. There will also be opportunities for projects across the UK and globally; therefore, any candidate applying for this role will need to be willing to travel.

Whilst most of the time will be spent on location or at the specific project you are assigned to, regular travel home will be provided.

You will be part of a team of Hitachi Energy employees with different responsibilities on site during the execution of work. There will be a Site Manager who is overall responsible for the Hitachi Energy works. There will also be specialists within areas such as quality, health and safety, planning, and more.

You will be leading a team of installation experts and will be responsible for the installation and testing of electrical and mechanical equipment procured and delivered by Hitachi Energy. To perform the work under your responsibility, you and the rest of the installation team will manage subcontractors carrying out the work. As Installation Manager, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating and managing the Hitachi Energy team at your disposal to ensure project targets and milestones related to safety, quality, schedule and budget are met.

Your responsibilities
  • Your main mission will be to manage installations on site (both AC and DC) in high-voltage installation projects globally.
  • Support subcontracting activities related to installation work.
  • Read and understand contractual documentation in order to deliver in accordance with it.
  • Lead the preparation and planning of installation activities in the early stages of projects.
  • Manage and guide subcontractors on site to ensure completion of all installation activities efficiently and cost-effectively, in accordance with contract specifications, quality standards and safety requirements.
  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of installation activities on site.
  • Coordinate installation activities with the Site Manager and other internal and external stakeholders on site.
  • Manage and coach Installation Supervisors.
  • Coordinate with the engineering office to ensure the necessary documentation is used on site during execution and provide mark‑ups for as‑built project documentation.
  • Maintain good relationships with internal and external suppliers.

Your background
  • You have a technical education, preferably with a degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or have acquired previous experience in electrical or mechanical installation work on large-scale projects.
  • You have at least 6-8 years of experience within a relevant field.
  • Experience managing people is required.
  • Experience in installation management is required.
  • Previous experience in electrical and/or mechanical installation is required.
  • Previous experience in HVDC, FACTS or substation projects is preferred.
  • Proficiency in English is a must, both written and spoken. Additional languages are a plus.
