Job summary

TeacherActive is recruiting a SEND Teacher for a specialist school in Colchester, Essex. The role focuses on supporting students with MLD, SLD and SEMH across Year 3 to Year 11, delivering a nurturing and inclusive curriculum in a supportive environment.

Qualifications

• Must have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
• Experience teaching children or young people with SEND.
• Ability to adapt lessons for a wide range of learning abilities and additional needs.
• Strong classroom management and positive behaviour support skills.
• Excellent communication, organisation and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to pupils with SEND.
• Adapt teaching methods and resources to support pupils below age-related expectations.
• Create a positive, structured classroom environment and encourage engagement and independence.
• Deliver a broad and balanced curriculum suitable for individual abilities.
• Use multisensory teaching approaches for diverse learning styles.
• Assess, monitor and track pupil progress and adapt strategies accordingly.
• Develop understanding of EHCPs and implement appropriate support strategies.
• Work with Teaching Assistants and specialist staff to provide personalised support.
• Lead a class group and provide guidance to support staff.
• Collaborate with teachers, therapists, SENCOs and school leaders.
• Contribute to curriculum planning and school improvement.
