Job summary

TREETOPS HOUSE is seeking a Part-Time Food/DT Specialist Teacher to deliver sequenced Food/DT across KS2–KS4 in a calm, nurturing environment. The role is 1–2 days per week, with a pro rata salary of £42,000–£55,000 FTE.

You will assess pupils, adapt for SEND and allergies, ensure food hygiene, and work under the Headteacher / Curriculum Lead. QTS/QTLS desirable; training and induction provided; safeguarding is a priority.

Qualifications

• Strong practical Food/DT competence and experience teaching young people.
• Ability to teach practical Food Technology safely.
• Level 2 Food Safety/Hygiene qualifications (or commitment to obtain).
• Current Allergy/Anaphylaxis training (or plan to complete).
• Ability to plan around allergies, medical needs and SEND.
• Safe use of tools/equipment with risk assessments.
• Completion of kitchen induction and staff competency sign-off before unsupervised teaching.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver sequenced Food/DT lessons with clear progression.
• Assess pupils’ starting points and record progress.
• Make reasonable adjustments for SEND, sensory, medical and regulation needs.
• Plan safely around allergies, intolerances and individual medical information.
• Maintain food hygiene, cleaning, cross-contamination, safe-storage and temperature-control procedures.
• Ensure safe use of ovens, hobs, knives, mixers, food processors and other practical equipment.
• Complete and follow subject/kitchen risk assessments and contribute to staff/pupil competency arrangements.
• Keep the school teaching kitchen operationally separate from any care-home kitchen arrangements, with its own procedures, risk assessments and records.
