Job summary

EdStart Specialist Education is seeking a dedicated English Teacher to support KS3 and KS4 students facing SEND and SEMH challenges. You will inspire English learning while supporting emotional and social development, working within a supportive, inclusive team.

You will plan lessons, differentiate for varied needs, engage parents and partners, and contribute to a culture of high standards and continuous professional growth.

Qualifications

• Degree in English or a related subject required.
• PGCE or equivalent required.
• At least 2 years' experience teaching English, preferably KS3/KS4.
• Strong ability to differentiate teaching methods for varied learning needs.
• Experience supporting students with SEN and SEMH.
• Experience using behaviour management strategies.
• Excellent communication skills with students, parents, and colleagues.
• Patient, empathetic, and solutions‑focused teaching approach.

Responsibilities

• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of English teaching and align with curriculum developments.
• Plan tutorials, activities, lessons and sequences to meet individual learning needs.
• Use a range of strategies and follow school policies for tutoring, teaching, behaviour and classroom management.
• Collaborate with parents and other agencies to support students' health, safety, and achievement.
• Assess, monitor and record student progress and provide clear feedback.
• Set high expectations based on prior knowledge and attainment to ensure progress.
• Pursue ongoing professional development to improve tutoring and teaching.
• Contribute to EdStart policies and the broader learning community.
