Job summary

Speedy Hire PLC, via Lloyds British, is seeking a Lifting Inspection Engineer to inspect and test lifting equipment across the UK. The role focuses on safety compliance under LOLER with opportunities for training and LEEA qualifications.

You will inspect gear, prepare reports, and support rigging loft operations while working to high professional standards and customer-focused service.

Qualifications

• Experience in lifting equipment inspection or mechanical engineering environment.
• Willingness to pursue LEEA qualifications.
• NVQ/City & Guilds or equivalent in Engineering or Mechanics desirable.

Responsibilities

• Carry out inspections and thorough examinations of lifting equipment.
• Undertake load testing and occasional destructive testing as required.
• Inspect lifting accessories (chains, slings, shackles) and report defects.
• Prepare accurate inspection reports and maintain documentation.
• Work with colleagues and customers to deliver high-quality service.
• Ensure compliance with LOLER and health & safety procedures.

The Role

As a Lifting Inspection Engineer, you will be responsible for carrying out inspections, testing and thorough examinations of lifting equipment, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, including the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER).

Your responsibilities will include:

• Carrying out inspections and thorough examinations of lifting equipment and accessories.
• Undertaking load testing, pull testing and occasional destructive testing where required.
• Inspecting lifting accessories, including chains, slings, shackles and associated equipment.
• Supporting the day-to-day operation and management of the rigging loft.
• Identifying defects and ensuring equipment meets the required safety standards.
• Producing accurate inspection reports and maintaining relevant documentation.
• Working closely with colleagues and customers to deliver a high-quality, professional service.
• Ensuring all work is carried out in accordance with health and safety requirements and company procedures.
• Supporting your business unit and team in delivering our ESG Strategy - Decade to Deliver.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who is practical, motivated and keen to develop their technical knowledge and skills.

Ideally, you will have:

• Experience working within the lifting equipment industry or a mechanical engineering environment.
• LEEA qualifications or a willingness to work towards them.
• An NVQ, City & Guilds or equivalent qualification in Engineering or Mechanics - desirable but not essential.
• Experience working in a testing or inspection environment - advantageous.
• Good mechanical knowledge and a hands‑on approach to problem‑solving.
• Excellent attention to detail and the ability to identify potential equipment defects.
• Strong communication skills and a customer‑focused approach.
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• A willingness to learn and undertake further technical training.
• A full UK driving licence.
