Inorganic Laboratory Analyst (Maternity Cover)

The Vacancy

Envirolab, a member of RSK Group, has an opportunity for an experienced Inorganic Analyst to join their team at their new laboratory in Hyde, Greater Manchester, UK.

This role is for maternity cover for 12 months but could potentially become a full-time position.

Envirolab is an analytical laboratory with an outstanding track record for delivering analysis competitively and on time. The company provides environmental analytical services, primarily of soil and groundwater samples.

Key responsibilities:

  • Carry out technical work in accordance with Envirolab procedures.
  • Manage day-to-day instrument operations.
  • Ensure all work complies with UKAS and Envirolab QMS requirements.
  • Calibrate laboratory equipment.
  • Perform and document regular instrument maintenance.
  • Process, calculate, and verify analytical results.
  • Assist in preparation for various analyses.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping.
  • Follow Envirolab’s safety policies, including the use of protective clothing.
  • Train and assess other staff in Envirolab procedures.
  • Report anomalies or QC irregularities to the quality manager and record such information accurately.
  • Recommend procedural or practice changes to address errors or recurrent problems.
  • Conduct routine QC reviews.
  • Perform regular SHEMS inspections.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties for this position.

Person specification:

  • Preferably have 12 months hands-on experience with ICPOES, ICPMS, HPLC, TOC/DOC, Skalar, Aquakem/Gallery, including troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Experience in method development and validation would be advantageous.
  • Assist in other laboratory areas as needed.
  • Organized and methodical approach.
  • Ability to work in a busy environment and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong team player.
