Job summary

The University of Manchester invites applications for a Centre for Innovation Compliance Officer to join the Regulatory Compliance team. This role supports the Henry Royce Institute and the Tata Steel Limited/Royce Centre for Innovation in Advanced Materials, helping ensure UK and international regulatory compliance for advanced materials research and innovation.

This full-time, Grade 6, fixed-term role until 31 January 2028 is based at Oxford Road, with hybrid working patterns including on-site

Qualifications

• A degree or substantial professional experience in a university or comparable environment.
• Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Excellent organisational, administrative and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and make sound, proportionate decisions.
• Experience working with complex regulatory or compliance‑related processes.
• Experience or qualifications in export compliance or trade compliance.
• A degree in chemistry, engineering or another physical or life science discipline.
• Knowledge of the academic research environment and regulated research activities.
• Willingness to undertake DGSA, IATA or other relevant professional training.

Responsibilities

• Developing and managing systems to ensure compliance with UK and US export control regulations, including UK Export Control Order, US EAR and ITAR
• Acting as a point of contact for advice on export controls, classification of goods and technology, and licensing requirements
• Supporting applications for UK and US export licences and maintaining accurate records of licences, authorisations and control plans
• Conducting Denied Party Screening (DPS) and visitor screening, and supporting compliance audits
• Providing advice and guidance on import regulations, dangerous goods and subsidy control requirements
