Job summary

University of Manchester is seeking a motivated Centre for Innovation Compliance Officer to join the Regulatory Compliance team. You will develop and maintain assurance systems to ensure UK and international regulatory compliance, manage export controls, licensing applications, and conduct Denied

Job description

We are seeking a motivated and detailoriented individual to join our team as a Centre for Innovation Compliance Officer. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of research, innovation and regulatory compliance, supporting the Henry Royce Institute and the Tata Steel Limited/Royce Centre for Innovation in Advanced Materials.

Jointly managed by the Directorate of Compliance and Risk and the Henry Royce Institute, you will be part of the Regulatory Compliance team and play a key role in developing and maintaining assurance systems that support compliance with UK and international regulations. The role is central to enabling advanced materials research and innovation to be delivered safely, securely and in line with regulatory requirements.

This is a fulltime, Grade 6, fixedterm role until 31 January 2028, based at the University's Oxford Road campus.

You will be responsible for:

  • Developing and managing systems to ensure compliance with UK and US export control regulations, including UK Export Control Order, US EAR and ITAR
  • Acting as a point of contact for advice on export controls, classification of goods and technology, and licensing requirements
  • Supporting applications for UK and US export licences and maintaining accurate records of licences, authorisations and control plans
  • Conducting Denied Party Screening (DPS) and visitor screening, and supporting compliance audits
  • Providing advice and guidance on import regulations, dangerous goods and subsidy control requirements

This is a hybrid role and the post holder will be expected to spend a minimum of 1 day per week in the Compliance & Risk Office and 1 day per week in the Royce Hub.

  • Experience working with complex regulatory or compliancerelated processes
    • Desirable Criteria
      • Experience or qualifications in export compliance or trade compliance
      • A degree in chemistry, engineering or another physical or life science discipline
      • Knowledge of the academic research environment and regulated research activities
      • Willingness to undertake DGSA, IATA or other relevant professional training
