Qualifications

  • Chartered Engineer status and a degree are essential for this role.
  • Extensive experience with track and OLE infrastructure is required.

Job description

I am currently working with a leading owner and asset manager of passenger and freight rolling stock, who are committed to sustainability, innovation, and delivering long-term value to their partners and the wider community.

They have made huge investments that will play a pivotal role in the future of the UK's railway with an outstanding facility to test and trial new traction technologies, safely store rolling stock and provide training in a live environment.

As Infrastructure Manager you will ensure that the track and associated railway infrastructure remains safe, operable and is maintained to a high standard. You will provide continued oversight to protect the asset base sufficiently to maximise its longevity and avoid degradation.

The Infrastructure Manager will also provide professional railway infrastructure subject matter and recommendations to the Head of Rail Infrastructure to assist in their execution of this required function.


Main responsibilities for this Infrastructure Manager role:
  1. Work with the management team to understand the future operational requirements of the site and ensure that these have been considered against the infrastructure being utilised.
  2. Assess potential new projects/workstreams (such as testing, commissioning, storage etc).
  3. Work with the Operations Safety & Standards Manager to ensure operational processes and procedures remain wholly aligned.
  4. Manage the safe integration of any additional infrastructure/equipment required either to support future developments or project activity.
  5. Ensure the infrastructure on site is proactively maintained to provide a safe environment for operations, reduces the risk of avoidable downtime and protects the assets from inappropriate degradation.
  6. Manage the maintenance and repair contractors/suppliers on site, prioritising work to maximise value for money and reduce impact on operations.
  7. Ensuring such contractors/suppliers are deemed competent and the supplied RAMS are reviewed to confirm they are robust and appropriate for the tasks being enacted.
  8. Ensure all infrastructure spend is appropriately collated and budgeted for.
  9. Provide professional informed and considered subject matter advice to the Head of Rail Infrastructure to assist in the ongoing governance and decision making with regards to the infrastructure.
  10. Provide help and support on site when required by the General Manager - Site & Asset Management, underpinning the 'one team' culture within the staff cohort.

Requirements for this Infrastructure Manager role:
  1. Chartered Membership of an Engineering Institution
  2. Degree Level attainment
  3. Extensive experience working with track and OLE infrastructure.
  4. Excellent knowledge of track layout, condition assessment & maintenance.
  5. Experience of infrastructure of OLE provision and maintenance.
  6. Report writing experience.
  7. Financial, budgeting and commercial awareness.
  8. Experience of compiling infrastructure condition, operation and chance/enhancement reporting.
  9. Experience of infrastructure change and maintenance risk assessment.
