Job summary

lowRISC CIC is seeking an Infrastructure Support Engineer to sustain a compact, broad infra footprint that underpins hardware design, security verification, FPGA testing, and silicon CI/CD. The role suits a junior to mid-level engineer eager to learn and improve in a mission-driven, open-source environment.

You will work across declarative infrastructure, zero-trust networking, hybrid cloud/on prem Kubernetes, and custom tooling, directly boosting engineers building open silicon.

Qualifications

• Strong Linux fundamentals and production-like systems experience.
• Read and improve real-world Python tools regularly.
• Hands-on Kubernetes operations and troubleshooting.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform/OpenTofu) or similar.
• Solid Git/GitHub knowledge, ideally with CI/CD pipelines.
• Curiosity and ability to ramp up on new tools quickly.
• Clear communication across hardware, software and infra domains.
• Experience using AI-assisted development workflows (e.g., Claude Code, Codex).

Responsibilities

• Maintain and troubleshoot on-prem Kubernetes cluster supporting hardware design and CI workloads.
• Support Nebula overlay network for zero-trust across distributed teams.
• Operate and enhance self-hosted GitHub Actions runners, including FPGA test rigs.
• Maintain and improve Python-based internal tooling for engineers.
• Manage NixOS deployments via declarative configurations.
• Provision and manage Google Cloud resources using Terraform/OpenTofu.
• Monitor system health and respond to alerts.
• Collaborate with hardware, security and open-source contributors to debug CI/fpga/cloud issues.
• Document setups and workflows for onboarding new team members.
