We’re seeking a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to take ownership of the infrastructure design, deployment, and optimization needed to support high-performance AI workloads in an industrial environment. You’ll help build and configure the backbone that powers ML and robotics systems onsite.

The projects starts by designing and deploying infrastructure for an AI-powered robotic welding solution. This initial phase will focus on aligning with the client and shaping the delivery roadmap across multiple parallel workstreams — including platform, development, and infrastructure.

This is a freelance role, primarily UK-based, with hybrid work arrangements. A preference will be given to candidates who currently hold, or are eligible to obtain, MOD security clearance. Market rates applicable.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement end-to-end infrastructure stacks including compute, storage, and networking, tailored to support AI/ML systems
• Deploy and provision infrastructure assets in industrial/manufacturing settings (on-site)
• Install, configure, and operate Kubernetes-based platforms such as SUSE Rancher/Harvester or RedHat OpenShift
• Align infrastructure plans with evolving platform and ML team requirements
• Ensure secure, high-availability, and scalable systems in production environments
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams working in agile, parallel streams
• Recommend future-proof infrastructure strategies to scale with evolving AI system demands
  
  
  

Ideal Experience

• 5+ years in infrastructure engineering roles, ideally in high-performance or AI environments
• Deep understanding of infrastructure stacks for compute, network, and storage
• Hands-on experience deploying Kubernetes clusters in real-world production setups
• Comfortable working onsite in industrial/manufacturing environments (e.g., cabling, racking, provisioning)
• Familiarity with SUSE Rancher, Harvester, RedHat OpenShift, or similar platforms
• Able to build robust infrastructure to support demanding ML/robotics workloads
• Strong grasp of high-availability, fault-tolerant, and secure systems design Bonus:
• Experience with infrastructure automation (e.g., Ansible, Terraform)
• Networking experience (firewalls, VPNs, VLANs)
• Exposure to edge deployments, IoT, or robotics system support
