Hours: 35 hours per week

Contract: Permanent

Location: Hybrid - A blend of working from home and your nominated hub office, we have hubs in London, Bristol, Manchester and Oxford. Specific patterns for working in the office are not mandated, and the frequency of time worked in the office is agreed with your manager. Meeting in person is something we value so you may need to travel on occasion to any of our hub offices.

About the team and the role:

We develop new products to meet the needs of our members now and in the future, and provide technology leadership within the organisation and to our members and customers. Most of Jisc's technical resource and capability sits within our Group CTO directorate, allowing us to focus on delivering Jisc's digital vision for members and customers.

This critical role is within Workplace IT, in the Cloud and Connectivity team. The team’s role is to develop and maintain the core platforms on both cloud and on-prem infrastructure to support our customer facing activities.

You will play a crucial role in building, deploying, evaluating, and maintaining Jisc IT infrastructure using the latest technology. The role ensures that all IT systems supporting Jisc business runs efficiently and seamlessly.

This role can be offered at Infrastructure engineer or Senior infrastructure engineer level dependant on skillset and experience.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Working closely with the infrastructure architect to deploy new infrastructure solutions, ensuring they aligns with business needs, scalability, and technological advancements.
  • Implementing security measures to safeguard the infrastructure, including firewalls, encryption, access controls, and vulnerability assessments.
  • Automating the setup and management of infrastructure components, writing code to define and deploy resources, making the process efficient and consistent.
  • Continuously monitoring system performance, tracking resource utilization, and setting up logging mechanisms to identify issues promptly.
  • Overseeing upgrades, migrations, and integrations, ensuring minimal disruption to services, coordinating with other teams and stakeholders.
  • Maintaining comprehensive documentation, including system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.

Key Skills and Experience:

  • Demonstrable experience of using tools to support Jisc Technologies, for example Monitoring tools, logging tools, Backup tools.
  • Strong Linux focus and previous experience of Chef essential.
  • Previous experience of using at least 1 of the Jisc Core Technologies: M365, Teams, Exchange, Intune, Azure, AWS, VMware, Commvault, Cisco Firewalls and Meraki SD WAN.
  • Previous experience working within a team and creating documents and provide technical guidance.
  • At least 1 professional qualification in Jisc Core Infrastructure technology or Relevant experience.
  • ITIL v4 Foundation.
