Job summary

Assystem is seeking a Consultant Ecologist to join our growing ecology team and contribute to a diverse range of infrastructure and development projects across the UK. You will work with experienced ecologists and multidisciplinary teams, providing practical ecological advice from planning through to construction.

The role focuses on ecological surveys, assessments, and mitigation, with opportunities to advance technical capabilities, contribute to EIAs/HRA/BNG, and develop within Assystem’s

Qualifications

• You will have a degree in Ecology, Environmental Science or a related discipline, along with relevant experience in an ecological consultancy or environmental organisation.
• Experience undertaking ecological surveys and assessments.
• Good knowledge of UK wildlife legislation, planning policy and ecological best practice.
• Experience with protected species surveys and mitigation.

Responsibilities

• Deliver ecological surveys, assessments and mitigation across infrastructure and development projects.
• Prepare high-quality technical reports and ecological documentation.
• Support EIAs, HRAs, and Biodiversity Net Gain assessments.
• Provide practical ecological advice to project teams and clients.
• Support Ecological Clerk of Works activities and monitor construction works.
• Contribute to project meetings, site visits and client discussions.
