Job summary

Brighton & Hove City Council seeks a motivated Information Rights professional to join the Information Rights Team on a fixed-term 9-month contract. You will handle FOIs, SARs, EIRs, and Data Protection requests with on-the-job training and collaboration across the council.

You will work with colleagues at all levels and provide high-quality customer service while ensuring compliance with key legislation and maintaining databases and information systems.

Qualifications

  • Experience in office administration or a fast-paced work environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work to strict deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Confidentiality when handling personal information.
  • Team player with a flexible approach to meet business needs.
  • Confidence using Microsoft Word and Excel.

What You’ll Do
  • Providing specialist support and advice across council services. You will be working will colleagues of all levels of seniority from officers to Heads of Service and Directors, as well as members, partners, and stakeholder groups.
  • Working with members of the public providing first-rate customer service in assisting them to exercise their access rights
  • Ensure that the council and its directorates meet the statutory legal requirements associated with the relevant legislation.
  • Maintaining internal databases and gaining a cross council understanding of the systems and databases used to store information
The Team and Service Functions
  • Freedom of Information (FOI) requests and Environmental Information Regulations (EIR) assessing new requests, logging and allocation to drafting the final response using relevant legislation
  • Corporate Subject Access Requests (SARs) assessing new and clarified requests for all council services, handling complex cases, allocation to services
  • Children's Social Work Services (CSWS) Subject Access Requests which includes end to end processing of requests involving collating, investigating, redacting information and sending responses
  • Data Protection requests including data breaches, disclosure requests and other rights such as right to objection and right to erasure, Our city is known and loved for its diversity. Requirements
  • Experience in office administration or a fast-paced work environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work to strict deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills-able to handle demanding customers with differing needs, sensitive or complex cases with professionalism.
  • An understanding of the importance of confidentiality when handling personal information in all its forms
  • A team player with a flexible and adaptable approach to meet business needs.
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge of Freedom of Information, Data Protection Act 2018, GDPR, or EIR- that's a bonus! But don't worry if not, as we offer full training to help you succeed.
  • Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is less than 37 hours or term-time only. Please note that this post is subject to a Basic Disclosure Criminal Records Check.

Team and service working arrangements are designed to support both employee work life balance and team collaboration. These would be part of your individual working arrangements alongside any personal preference agreed with your manager in advance of joining.
  • Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team and travel to and from your contractual location would be at your own expense.
