Job summary

Milton Keynes City Council is seeking a Corporate Information Officer to join the Customer Data and Insight team. You will help ensure compliance with information governance, support information rights requests, and maintain public trust in services.

The role involves advising colleagues, managing records, assessing data breaches, and coordinating with the ICO. Home-working may be possible after assessment, with some office presence required.

Qualifications

  • Communicate with customers on data protection inquiries and requests.
  • Support liaison with the Information Commissioner's Office and compliance reporting.
  • Collaborate with services on DPIAs, information sharing, and compliance reporting.

Job Introduction

We're recruiting a Corporate Information Officer to join our Customer Data and Insight team at Milton Keynes City Council.

This rewarding role sits within a team that helps the council meet its legal responsibilities for information rights, data protection and transparency. You'll play an important part in supporting colleagues across the organisation to manage information correctly, respond to requests for information and maintain public trust in the services we provide.

Working closely with colleagues across the council, you'll help ensure compliance with information governance legislation, provide advice and guidance, support investigations and contribute to continuous improvement across the service. This role would suit someone with experience working in a professional environment who enjoys problem solving, analysing information and supporting others.

This role may be suitable for home working, following an assessment. Home-based roles require a minimum of one day per week working from the office or site.

Main Responsibility
  • Provide advice, guidance and training to colleagues and managers on data protection, Subject Access Requests, Freedom of Information requests and Environmental Information Regulations to support compliance with legal requirements.
  • Manage and maintain records and tracking systems for information requests, working with services to gather information and ensure responses are provided within required timescales.
  • Assess data breach reports, support risk mitigation activities and accelerate matters where appropriate.
  • Communicate directly with customers regarding data protection enquiries and requests for information.
  • Support communication and correspondence with the Information Commissioner's Office, helping the council provide timely and high-quality responses.
  • Work with services on Data Protection Impact Assessments, information sharing arrangements and compliance reporting to help protect the council's information assets and reputation.
The Ideal Candidate
  • Educated to A level standard or able to demonstrate an equivalent level of relevant experience within a professional working environment.
  • With a sound understanding of information governance legislation, you'll be able to demonstrate knowledge of the Freedom of Information Act, Environmental Information Regulations and Data Protection legislation (Desirable)
  • A confident communicator who can explain complex information clearly and build positive relationships with people at all levels.
  • Someone who can handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism, care and attention to detail.
  • Bringing strong analytical and problem-solving skills, you'll be able to manage competing priorities and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office applications and other digital systems required to support service delivery.

Roles are either 'site based' or 'home based'.

Site based roles are mainly based at the workplace, with the option to work from home for up to two days a week, depending on service needs.

Home based roles are mainly based at home, with the expectation of attending the workplace up to one day a week.

The working arrangement for each role is set by the manager, based on service requirements.
