Job summary

GOVERNMENT LEGAL DEPARTMENT in Bristol seeks Information Lawyers to join MOJ Legal Advisers. You will advise on information governance, data protection and privacy, with an international dimension, delivering practical guidance to government bodies.

You’ll handle FOI requests, draft and review data sharing agreements and processing contracts, and work with internal teams and stakeholders to manage legal risk and ensure compliance. BPSS clearance is required.

Qualifications

• Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive in England and Wales.
• Minimum of a 2.1 honours degree in any subject or equivalent, with evidence of high-level academic or professional achievement.
• BPSS vetting is required for all GLD employees; ability to obtain CTC level clearance.

Responsibilities

• Advise on Freedom of Information Act requests and related disclosure issues.
• Draft and review data sharing agreements and data processing contracts.
• Support information governance, records management and retention policies.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to manage legal risk and ensure compliance.
• Keep up to date with developments in information law, including AI-related issues.
