Job summary

The Methodist Church in Britain seeks an infection prevention and control nurse to work in the IPC team, with a decontamination focus. The role involves advising staff and patients, outbreaks investigation, audits and training across sites, with travel between sites and support for a directorate.

You will hold NMC registration with a degree or on a pathway and have a driving licence with access to a vehicle.

Qualifications

• Excellent verbal and written communication.
• Good IT skills, proficient in Microsoft packages.
• Ability to work on own initiative and prioritise workload.
• Able to work effectively with hospital staff and external colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Act as specialist adviser on infection prevention and control to all staff.
• Liaise with staff and agree action during outbreaks.
• Assist in investigating outbreaks, including source, spread and containment.
• Contribute to the IPCT clinical audit programme and recommend changes trust-wide.
• Deliver formal and informal IPC training to staff in different settings.
• Identify education needs and provide specialist information to staff groups.
• Provide counselling and information to patients, carers and staff on IPC measures.
• Represent the IPC team on committees and working groups, and represent the trust externally.
• Contribute to policies, guidelines, reports and QI projects.
• Work as part of a team supporting an assigned directorate and report to senior managers and clinical directors.
• Act as practice supervisor to students, support junior team members and conduct appraisals.
• Maintain accurate records and logs, and travel between sites as necessary.
