Job summary

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust in Walsall is seeking an experienced Infant Feeding Midwife to promote and support breastfeeding in line with UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative Standards, educating staff and ensuring families access skilled feeding support.

Under the Infant Feeding Specialist Midwife, you will assess complex feeding needs, lead staff training, drive audits, and contribute to achieving Stage 2, delivering evidence-based care to mothers, babies and families.

Qualifications

• Registered Midwife with degree level or equivalent.
• UNICEF BFI Breastfeeding and Relationship Building Course or equivalent.
• UNICEF BFI Train the Trainer Course/Recognised Teaching Qualification or equivalent.
• Advanced Clinical Skills in Tongue Tie (Ankyloglossia) Management.
• Solihull Approach training.
• Counselling certificate/diploma.

Responsibilities

• Promote breastfeeding and initiate/maintain feeding per BFI Standards.
• Provide infant feeding support in line with BFI Standards and WHT Guidance.
• Advise and support multidisciplinary teams in infant feeding.
• Maintain clinical visibility and ensure staff competence in positioning and attachment.
• Refer to Infant Feeding Specialist Midwife and other specialists when needed.
• Lead auditing and staff training for BFI compliance.
