Northrop Grumman UK is offering an Industrial Placement Systems Engineer in New Malden, London. The role develops Platform Management Systems for the UK’s nuclear‑powered submarines, contributing to the engineering lifecycle with multidisciplinary teams.

Start September 2027, salary £25,000, full-time, site-based with flexible options. You will gain practical systems engineering experience, with dedicated mentorship and a group project, while learning from experienced engineers within defence

Qualifications

• Currently working towards a degree in Electronics, Mechanical, Systems or Software Engineering.
• Knowledge of systems engineering including verification and validation.
• Knowledge of control systems.
• Knowledge of DOORS or a similar requirements management tool.
• Proactive approach and ability to complete a variety of project activities efficiently.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Visio, PowerPoint, Excel).
• Confidence to present at reviews and meetings with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to systems engineering activities from requirements through to acceptance, including verification and validation.
• Help produce project systems engineering deliverables and support continuous process improvement.
• Complete assigned activities in line with approved plans, processes and procedures.
• Help estimate the scope and effort for systems engineering activities.
• Monitor tasks, timescales and expenditure against schedules and budgets.
• Support project reviews, including design, risk and change-impact reviews.
• Contribute to defect, fault and issue management and remediation.
• Apply standards to support safety, security and regulatory compliance.
