Job summary

Leonardo is seeking an Industrial Placement Software Engineer for a 12-month placement in Newcastle. You will work under an experienced engineer, gain hands-on experience across the software development lifecycle, and contribute to real-world aerospace projects.

The role includes writing robust code, documenting work, and delivering progress reports, with a focus on learning design techniques and understanding key processes and technologies used in aerospace applications.

Qualifications

• Experience in programming and enthusiasm for software design.
• Experience with object-oriented programming (C++ is preferred) and familiarity with UML is a plus.
• Full statement of courses and projects studied with grades should be included in CV.

Responsibilities

• Report to an experienced engineer and learn software development processes.
• Create high-quality, well-documented code and record work products.
• Deliver technical reports and presentations to supervisors and peers.
• Develop skills across software design, modelling tools, compilers and test environments.
• Collaborate with software, systems, firmware and electronics engineers on integration tasks.
