Job summary

Vermelo in the United Kingdom seeks an experienced Large Loss Technical Controller to provide independent quality assurance and technical oversight across high value and complex claims. This second-line role focuses on assurance, not frontline handling.

The successful candidate will review complex claims, challenge technical decisions, and support governance reporting with analytical insights and quality intelligence.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience handling or overseeing Large Loss claims, including complex cases.
• Strong knowledge of claims law, litigation processes, and reserving principles.
• Experience in quality assurance, auditing, or technical peer review.
• Understanding of Consumer Duty, conduct risk, and fair value principles.
• Ability to assess complex claims objectively and communicate conclusions clearly.

Responsibilities

• Conduct structured quality assurance reviews across Large Loss claims.
• Assess technical decisions, liability, causation, quantum, reserving, and documentation.
• Provide independent challenge on Large Loss reserving decisions.
• Identify risks, conduct issues, and opportunities for improvement.
• Deliver feedback and insights to handlers and technical leaders.
• Produce thematic analysis to support governance reporting and training.
