Job summary

Tameside Council is seeking Independent Panel Members for the Fostering Panel. You will scrutinise fostering and kinship assessments, contribute to discussions, identify strengths and risks, and make evidence-based recommendations on approval and ongoing suitability of foster carers.

Roles require safeguarding commitment, confidentiality, analytical reading, and collaborative work. Training and induction are provided; typical panel payments range from £150 for half-day to £200 for full-day

Qualifications

• Commitment to safeguarding children and maintaining confidentiality.
• Ability to read complex information and ask appropriate questions.
• Willingness to undertake training and develop in the role.
• Experience in fostering, social work, youth work, education, health, safeguarding, or related fields welcomed.
• Minimum 3 years post-qualification experience for social workers (England regs).

Responsibilities

• Scrutinise fostering and kinship assessments and reviews.
• Contribute to panel discussion and make evidence-based recommendations.
• Observe panel meetings as part of induction.
